How I Healed My Child’s Cavity


If you ask most people whether or not a cavity can heal, the answer you would get 99% of the time is that it is impossible.
Even conventional dentists would agree with this assessment. Ask a typical dentist at a routine cleaning whether you can heal a cavity on your own and he/she is likely to look at you like you’re crazy (I know this from experience).
In stark contrast to this current conventional “wisdom”, Dr. Weston A. Price DDS wrote of numerous situations in his dental practice back in the 1920′s and 1930′s where cavities healed with no need for drilling and filling.  Dr. Price discovered through research that cavities are caused by nutritional deficiency and when this nutritional deficiency is corrected, the cavity heals.
If you think about this in an open-minded manner leaving all preconceived ideas about cavities behind, doesn’t this make sense?  Shouldn’t the body be able to heal a cavity just like it heals a broken bone or a cut on your arm?  Why would teeth be any different from a broken wrist after all?
Having read Dr. Price’s epic work Nutrition and Physical Degeneration some years ago, I’ve been of the school of thought that cavities can indeed be healed with proper nutrition for some time.  But believing something intellectually and knowing it works from experience are two very different things, are they not?
For this reason, I am very excited to relay to you a recent story regarding one of my children.  You see, my oldest child recently developed a cavity in his top right lateral incisor.  It was behind the tooth right on the gumline.  My husband noticed it one night as he was checking his teeth to see if he was doing a good job brushing and flossing (he’s way too old for nightly brushing by Mom or Dad).

Physical inactivity kills 5 million a year: report


A third of the world's adults are physically inactive, and the couch potato lifestyle kills about five million people every year, experts said in the medical journal The Lancet on Wednesday.
"Roughly three of every 10 individuals aged 15 years or older -- about 1.5 billion people -- do not reach present physical activity recommendations," they said in a report that described the problem as a "pandemic."
The picture for adolescents is even more worrying, with four out of five 13- to 15-year-olds not moving enough, it said.
Physical inactivity was described for the study as failing to do 30 minutes of moderate physical activity five times a week, 20 minutes of vigorous activity three times a week, or a combination of the two.
Inactivity increases with age, is higher in women than in men, and more prevalent in high-income countries, the researchers found.
A second study, comparing physical activity levels with population statistics on diseases like diabetes, heart problems and cancer, said lack of exercise claimed more than 5.3 million of the 57 million deaths worldwide in 2008.
It said inactivity was a risk factor comparable to smoking or obesity.
Lack of exercise causes an estimated six percent of coronary heart disease cases, seven percent of type 2 diabetes (the most common form) and 10 percent of breast and colon cancers, it said.
Reducing inactivity by 10 percent could eliminate more than half a million deaths every year, the report said, adding that the estimates were conservative.
The human body needs exercise to help the bones, muscles, heart and other organs function optimally, but populations are walking, running and cycling less and less as they spend more time in cars and in front of computers, the investigators said.
The Lancet series called for global efforts to promote physical exercise by improving pedestrian and cyclist safety on city roads, for example, more physical education at school or promoting access to free public exercise spaces.

When these breakfast barons forage for profit, we eaters are the prey. But what are the laws of this jungle? And how do we avoid being ripped off by products that are hazardous for our health and our environment? Let’s have a look at some of these corporations’ sneaky strategies.
First, there is intentional confusion. With so many different kinds of cereal lining the shelves, figuring out which is the best requires detective work. Many make claims about health, boasting “no trans fats,” “gluten-free,” and “a boost of omega three.” Others play to environmental concerns declaring “earthy harmony,” “nature in balance,” and “sustainable soils.” With the legion of labels, separating wheat from chaff seems impossible, but the report offers one rule of thumb: Don’t confuse organic with “natural.”
Organics, certified and recognizable by the green USDA label, are required by federal law to be produced without toxic inputs and genetically engineered ingredients. “Natural,” on the other hand, is defined by the producers themselves to mislead shoppers and protect shareholders. Cornucopia’s report found that, “When determining their ‘natural’ standards, companies will consider their profitability. Environmental concerns are unlikely to weigh heavily, if at all, in this profitability equation.”
Too bad we’ve been falling for it. The report cites a 2009 poll showing 33 percent of the public trusts the “natural” label while 45 percent trust the organic label.

Think You're Healthy? Check Your Fingernails


As far back as 3,000 BCE Chinese physicians studied their patients fingernails for telltale signs of illness.

Food crisis fears as US corn soars

TurboCharged Strength Training

People often question whether our mini-strength sessions can really build strength and lean body mass.  People think that you need weights or much more exercise in order to reach your fitness and body composition goals.

Strength training is necessary for muscle maintenance and optimal health.  There are many ways to accomplish this goal.  Some are easier than others and often personal preferences, physical condition and time constraints come into play.  The bottom line when it comes to maintaining or building muscles is: use it or lose it.  Just think about what happens when someone needs to wear a cast while a broken bone is healing.  When the cast is removed, the muscle atrophy is obvious.  Lack of use is the cause.  The muscle comes back when limb is allowed to work again.

Many people believe that heavy weights are needed to build muscle.  However, a new study shows this is not the case.

“The study, led by Stuart Phillips at McMaster University in Ontario, examined a group of 21-year-old men who were all weight-lifting novices.  Three times a week, the men did knee extensions on a weight machine; on one leg, they lifted 80 percent of the maximum weight they could lift to fatigue, for eight to 10 reps.  On the other leg, they lifted 30 percent max to fatigue, at around 25 reps. Comparing MRIs of the men’s quadriceps before and after 10 weeks of training, they found that there wasn’t much difference in muscle change between the heavy and light lifters.”

New chemical makes teeth 'cavity proof' - and could do away with dentist visits forever


Wow, this sounds really cool. I would place a bet that it wont come to market though. Just have a feeling.

A new chemical could make human teeth 'cavity proof' - and do away with the need for visits to the dentists forever.
The molecule has been called 'Keep 32' - after the 32 teeth in a human mouth.
The chemical was designed by dentists in Chile, and wipes out all the bacteria that cause cavities in just 60 seconds in tests.
The chemical could be added to any current dental care product, turning toothpaste, mouthwash and chewing gum into 'super cleansers' that could get rid of the underlying cause of tooth decay.
The chemical targets 'streptococcus mutans', the bacteria that turns the sugar in your mouth into lactic acid which erodes tooth enamel.
By exterminating the bacteria, 'Keep 32' prevents the damage to teeth before it happens.
Using a product containing the chemical keeps your teeth 'cavity proof' for several hours.
The product has been under test for seven years, and is now going into human trials.
It could be on the market in 14 to 18 months, say researchers José Córdoba from Yale University and Erich Astudillo from the University of Chile.
 
    The chemical could even be added to foods to stop bacteria damaging teeth as you eat.
    The researchers hope to licence the patent to chemical giants such as Procter and Gamble.
    'We are currently in talks with five interested in investing in our project or buy our patent,' say the researchers.

    Big Pharma criminality no longer a conspiracy theory: Bribery, fraud, price fixing now a matter of public record.

    Hospitals 'letting patients die to save money’


    Hospitals may be depriving elderly patients of food and drink to hasten their deaths as part of cost-cutting measures to free up bed space, leading doctors warn.

    Tens of thousands of patients with terminal illnesses are placed on a “death pathway” to help end their lives every year. However, in a letter to The Daily Telegraph, six doctors warn that hospitals may be using the controversial scheme to reduce strain on hospital resources.
    Supporters of the Liverpool Care Pathway, which allows medical staff to withhold fluid and drugs in a patient’s final days, claim it is the kindest way of letting them slip away. But the experts say in their letter that natural deaths are often freer of pain and distress.
    Informed consent is not always being sought by doctors, who fail to ask patients about their wishes while they are still in control of their faculties, warn the six. This has led to an increase in patients carrying cards informing doctors that they do not wish to be put on the pathway in the last few days of their lives.
    The six doctors are experts in elderly care and wrote the letter in conjunction with the Medical Ethics Alliance, a Christian medical organisation. They say that many members of the public have contacted them with examples of inappropriate use of the pathway, which is implemented in up to 29 per cent of hospital deaths.
    They warn that there is no “scientific way of diagnosing imminent death.” They write: “It is essentially a prediction, and it is possible that other considerations may come into reaching such a decision, not excluding the availability of resources.”

    Sitting Less May Add Two Years To U.S. Life Expectancy


    Americans may add as many as two years to the nation’s life expectancy if they can stand up more often and watch fewer hours of television, a study found.
    While studies have shown that too much time sitting and watching TV are bad for a person’s health, today’s research in the journal BMJ Open is the first to show how reducing sedentary behaviors may increase life expectancy in the U.S., now about 78 years, said Peter Katzmarzyk, the lead author.
    “It’s about the inactivity in your muscles,” Katzmarzyk, a professor of epidemiology at Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton RougeLouisiana, said yesterday in a telephone interview. “When you’re sitting your legs are completely inactive.
    ‘‘It’s not just about getting physical activity in your life. Just because you’re doing 30 minutes of physical activity, what about the other 23.5 hours,” he said. “Don’t just sit the rest of the day.”
    For those who work in an office setting, standing during meetings, walking over to a colleague’s desk rather than sending an e-mail and getting up as often as possible are a few ways to keep the muscles in the body active, he said.
    Reducing sitting time to fewer than three hours a day may add two years to U.S. life expectancyand cutting TV viewing time to fewer than two hours a day may extend life by about 1.4 years, according to the study, which analyzed previous research.

    Portion sizes in restaurants quadruple since 1950's




    It seems that while obesity rates have risen over the decades, so have portion sizes – not a particularly surprising connection. In fact, an incredibly alarming infographic helps to show that not only have meal sizes increased in size over the decades, but restaurant portion sizes have quadrupled since the 1950′s.

    Could this be the reason for the ballooning obesity epidemic? The infographic created by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention shows that hamburgers and french fry meals have tripled in size over the decades, while a cup of fountain soda is a whopping 6 times larger today than it used to be. A 2.4oz portion of french fries has grown to 6.7oz; hamburgers from 3.9oz to 12oz; and soda from 7oz to 42oz

    Prescription Painkillers Now the Leading Cause of Accidental Deaths


    Car accidents are no longer the leading cause of accidental deaths in the United States. According to a recent report published by theCDC's National Center for Health Statistics, this dubious distinction now belongs to drug poisoning. What's at the root of this trend? A river of prescription painkillers.
    Indeed, the report suggests that the United States is in the midst of a painkiller epidemic. Every year, more people now die from analgesic pain relievers, such as OxyContin and Vicodin, than cocaine and heroin combined.     Dr. Campbell-McBride finds that children suffering from GAP Syndrome tend to have a very limited diet, craving only starchy or sweet foods.
    Through testing she finds compromised gut flora (a lack or imbalance of beneficial intestinal bacteria), damage to the small and large intestine, and compromised immunity.  Ultimately, she creates the most telling link between developmental issues and digestion by explaining the ‘gut-brain connection.’  She states:
    “…a GAPS person’s digestive system becomes a major source of toxicity in the body.  An unknown number of various neurotoxins are produced by abnormal flora in the gut of these children and adults, these are absorbed through the damaged gut wall into the blood and taken to the brain.”

    Insanity! The government just jumped the shark. I highly recommend taken Vit D3, you don't really need the calcium since you get plenty of it in your food. Actually I recommend that my patients do not supplement calcium but rather eat more fruits, veggies (especially green leafy veggies).

    The authors of this article, Janice Lloyd, Liz Szabo and Nanci Hellmich, should be renamed the Three Stooges of Mainstream Journalism for their absurdly inaccurate headline. For starters, the study covered in the article only mentions that postmenopausal women shouldn't take low-doses of vitamin D combined with calcium. According to the U.S. government a "low dose" is something around 200 IUs daily -- a virtually useless quantity of vitamin D. Most nutritionists recommend 4,000 IUs daily or even more.
